Notice how they put their ear to the car, while simultaneously checking the oil and dealing with those pesky gaskets.
We understand that mechanics are human, imperfect, yet they play a crucial role in our ability to drive our automobiles.
There is a parallel in pastoral care. People often ask me exactly how my role functions within the movement. I put my ear to the Body of Christ, listening for a blown gasket, then go about praying for a fresh, living move of God into the situation or circumstance.
Pastoral care becomes complex only when we relinquish the living Word of its authority. Remember, a pastor is human, and we are all imperfect, yet fearfully and wonderfully made.
Lean not on your own understanding, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
