Have you ever felt your safety was conditional, as though your acceptance hinged on the opinion of others?
There are many within the Church who no longer have a voice. They cry in silence, not because they lack faith or are not praying hard enough, but because they fear that speaking up will see them labelled divisive, disloyal, or a “church destroyer”.
When a position of authority is used to elevate emotion over the Gospel, fear over peace, and the message of Christ becomes diluted by the world, how different are we really from the Pharisees and Sadducees of Jesus’ time?
If we are serious about unity in the body of Christ, we must learn to recognise what coercive control looks like. It does not break people by force. It breaks them by conditioning their bodies and reactions to believe that safety is conditional, that belonging must be earned, and that submission is the price of acceptance.
Meanwhile, abuse is suppressed. Those who speak the truth are silenced. Love and joy are replaced with fear. Silence replaces discernment. Performance and feel-good messages replace presence.
There is a sickness in parts of the Australian Church that elevates image over integrity, comfort over the living Gospel. A faith that soothes but does not heal. A message that inspires crowds, yet leaves the wounded unseen and abandoned to the wolves.
This is written from personal experience. From exposure to trauma, fear, abuse, and abandonment. Yet I still carry the reverence, fear, and love of the King of Kings and the Lord of Hosts. I pray the Church remembers Him again.
There was a time when this dry and barren land was alight with the flame of the King. A time when people understood worship and praise, and lifted high the mighty name of the Lord.
If we heal together, can we return to a worship that brings every generation home?
