Be imitators of God, therefore, as beloved children, and walk in love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us as a fragrant offering to God. - Ephesians 5:1–2
The Greek word for “be imitators” is mimētai (μιμηταί). It doesn’t mean to copy or perform, but to embody.
We don't imitate Jesus by calling ourselves Christians; we imitate Him by becoming what He taught.
Too often, Western Christianity has tried to balance the cross with luxury, to reconcile the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross with the help of pop culture and feel-good sermons. That is not salvation, that is sedation.
I have stood in my faith long enough to be accused, misread and exiled by those who claimed His name louder than His love.
It is confronting when those who have never opened a Bible reflect His heart more than those who quote it.
So here's the question we need to be asking:
Are we using the Bible as a crutch to justify our lives, or as a compass that calls us to transformation?
To imitate Jesus is not to win an argument; it is to carry the cross.
