Did you know you’re allowed to be different? “But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased.” - 1 Corinthians 12:18 NKJV.
The LORD doesn’t just tolerate you and me. He delights in the person He has created, even as He continues forming our character. You are His design, and you are not a photocopy of another believer on this earth.
A believer is not the gatekeeper of the Body of Jesus Christ. We see this on the Day of Pentecost, when the Holy Ghost came upon the people with power and authority.
The LORD did not move through one language, conformity, or in a way that was expected. He enabled His children to speak in the languages of those gathered, so that all could hear “the wonderful works of God” in a way they understood.
This first service, where the LORD had moved, was multilingual, perhaps chaotic and alarming to those who wanted to gatekeep. As a result, some accused them of being drunk. Praise the LORD!
Too often, leaders are quick to penalise a personality when the LORD is actually sanctifying that person outside the institution. We are called to make space for them as Jesus transforms them into His likeness.
Discomfort is not discernment. Scripture repeatedly calls believers beyond comfort, out of the mould, to shine the light of Jesus Christ in every circumstance.
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” - Romans 12:2 NKJV.
The Church should not be conformed to the world, but should be a temple where people can be renewed, restored, and understand that although our sins are like scarlet, the LORD makes them white as snow. Yet He does not sanitise our personalities in the process.
May I encourage you not to be pulled into the image of the person with a microphone. Rather, learn and understand who Jesus Christ has called you to be and who He is calling you to become. You are made in His image.
You are not called to be less of who He has made you to be; you are called to become His wholly. Your unique and quirky personality is not something another must merely tolerate. Surrendered to our LORD and King, it may become an expression of His manifold grace, serving the work He has laid before you.
Jesus is forming a Body, not operating a photocopier.
