Not my will, but Your will be done:
Saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” Luke 22:42
Jesus said, “If it is Your will”, and offered His Father a desire that He “take this cup away from me” and proceeded to surrender, saying, “Nevertheless, not My will, but yours, be done”.
Too often, prayer is based upon you, and not on what our Father in Heaven has for you. While we have needs, desires and a hope, He is the author and perfecter of our faith and His plan for us is prepared before us.
When the LORD answers your prayer, it can be easy to miss His answer if your eyes remain fixed only on the trial, rather than looking for the grace He has already given. Prayer is not about our will, but His, and today I want to remind you that if Jesus prays in surrender, we too should treat it as an act of surrender to His will for our lives.
Jesus reveals in that moment of desperation how to yield, how to trust in the Father, no matter the cost. Prayer is a space where we present and lay down our desires and trust the LORD to lead us into what He has in store. Our Father in Heaven is faithful, and He did not teach us to hide our desires.
God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. - Psalm 46:1 NKJV
May we learn to turn to Him in our need and pray earnestly with honesty, surrender and walk in obedience to the call He has for us, even if it looks different to what we expected.
